Why Paris Jackson is proud of her hairy legs and armpits

In her short but up-and-coming career as a top model, actress and red carpet celebrity, Paris Jackson has begun to speak out forcefully against unrealistic standards of beauty that society forces on people, notably women.

In interviews and on social media, the 19-year-old daughter of Michael Jackson has talked about how those standards make it hard for anyone to feel comfortable “in our own skin 24/7.”

“Especially with what the media is constantly feeding us,” she said in the new issue of i-D magazine.  “I still have countless insecurities and fears, like everyone else I know.”

Among those standards is that women shouldn’t be hairy — on their legs, in their armpits or anywhere else.

While Paris has previously discussed her own choice to remain au natural, she upped her defense on Monday, posting on Instagram a photo of her unshaven legs.

The post comes after she gained attention Sunday at the MTV Video Music Awards. On the red carpet, she wore a sheer two-piece Dior ensemble that revealed her bra, underwear and — if you look carefully — her unshaven armpits.

In her Monday Instagram post, she joked about her competition with her brother Prince Michael Jackson over who can grow the most leg hair. “If you’re not competing with your brother over who can grow longer leg hair wyed.”
