Gisele and her husband share touching messages to women on social media

March 8 is International Women’s Day, a day that can trace its origins to activist movements in the early 1900s and was first codified by the United Nations during International Women’s Year in 1975.

Among those showing support for the day on Wednesday are supermodel Gisele Bundchen and her football-playing husband, who each posted a photo and message on Instagram.

“It’s time to end all forms of discrimination,” Bundchen wrote. “Let’s support and love one another. Happy Women’s Day for all women around the world! #equality #loveistheanswer #internationalwomensday

Meanwhile, Bundchen’s husband said he was “beyond blessed” by all of the women in his life.

“Happy International Women’s Day!” he wrote on Instagram. “I have been beyond blessed to have the most incredible support system and this picture sums it up. To the love of my life, @gisele, my mom, my sisters, my nieces and my little Girlie Girl — thank you for bringing so much love and joy to my life. And thank you for being such great examples of compassion and empathy. The world needs much more of it! I love you all!!”
Bundchen and her beau are not the only people sharing thoughts on Wednesday. Olympic gold medal gymnast and Needham native Aly Raisman posted a video to social media about the day, as well, offering her female followers an inspiring message of solidarity.
“Supporting another woman will never damper your success,” Raisman said. “Let’s all continue to love, support, and build each other up.”
